Three people—a pedestrian, and two Pennsylvania State Troopers, Martin Mack and Branden Sisca—were killed on Interstate 95. The relatives of Mack and Sisca, who investigators say were killed last March by a suspected drunk driver along I-95, met with 80 policemen and troopers to pay their respects.

On Saturday, August 13, about 80 law enforcement personnel from the greater Philadelphia area are putting their regular duty aside to deter drunk drivers from becoming an even more urgent crisis that may impact officers that aren’t visible at all hours of the night.

“It affects families… it affects the first responders that work the scenes as well as impacting those who are injured in these accidents.” Sergeant Blythe explained.

A coalition of local, regional, and state police units called Operation Nighthawk are working to stop drunk driving by conducting a network of DUI enforcement patrols.

They want to persuade anyone who’s considering driving while intoxicated to think about the wide-ranging consequences of their choice.

During a two-day detail known as Operation Nighthawk, the Pennsylvania State Police reported the arrest of 492 people for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

A statewide campaign was held to commemorate the enforcement initiative’s 20th anniversary.
